About the San Francisco Regional NACHMO Hub

The San Francisco Hub encompasses the Bay Area of California. Restarted after a hiatus from 2016-2021, this hub places emphasis on resetting, recharging, and exploring movement with the opportunity to show both live works and dance films.

Laney Stevens restarted the San Francisco NACHMO Hub in 2022 and has been leading it since.

SF’s January Challenge 2024:

As a newer hub, during a precarious time for the world, the goal for this January Challenge is to continue a no-worries attitude and feel no pressure. Emphasizing “work in progress”, we’re inviting dancers and choreographers to tap into what they love most about dance and movement and forget the pressure and stress the world and society provide. With a small, intimate, and friendly feel, we’re looking for movers who want to take the first month of the year to reset, recharge, and explore. We continue to work towards safety and comfort above all. If a film process seems more comfortable, that is welcome and encouraged!

Our showing is an all-inclusive, all-genres, all-levels of experience project, and since starting up the hub is still a process, this year will very much be a work in progress.

Hub Leader

Laney Stevens

Laney Stevens grew up in Santa Cruz, CA before moving to Southern California and spending most of her adolescence in various SoCal areas. Laney transferred from Pasadena City College to UC Berkeley during the pandemic and graduated in December 2022 in Dance & Performance Studies, and Film & Media. Her NACHMO 2020 dance film sparked her interest in exploring dance beyond the stage if the stage became unavailable. Laney has participated in NACHMO Los Angeles for 3 years and is excited to continue growing the hub in the Bay Area post-reboot for a 3rd consecutive year.
